I’ve fallen in love with København, just a little bit.

a priceless weekend in Copenhagen. With a little bit of sightseeing :)

Aarhus University’s annual boat race - the Kapsejlads - took place yesterday! Several thousands of students gathered in the University park - I guess I’m not the only one who didn’t even end up seeing the race. But all we needed was an excuse to catch our first sunburns, right?

Sometimes it’s also nice to escape

In Denmark, Easter involves the passing of gækkebreve, which are cute home made valentine letters. Denmark.dk shows how to make them

Påske Saturday at the Flea market?

Most shops and even the University Library close for Easter on Thursday (tomorrow!) already. But at least, Aarhus makes up for that with a flea market on Saturday! It’s also something of a herald of spring. So if the weather allows, the square between the cathedral and the theatre it is on Saturday!

It’s bear’s garlic season at Risskov. That means that along the way to the beach, you’ll have garlic scent in your nose. Besides that, the not-yet green forrest became green at least on its bottom layer!

Today is also Daylight Saving Time and it’s in fact the perfect day to begin having a summery feeling. Sanna and I went for ice cream first and then walked to the forest to collect bear’s garlic. At home, I made an enormous of pesto out of it that we ate in our backyard.

Now, the sun came down behind our neighbors’ house, which got us almost all of us back inside (probably much to the delight of said neighbors), but my skin is still warm and I can’t get that garlicky taste off my tongue. Anyways.

First Sunday in the summer timezone was definitely well spent.

La Cabra is so underground I couldn’t find a website and I almost ran past the place when looking for it. It’s also actually in the basement and in between coffee-making, the baristas change the music on their record player. Theirs may well have been the strongest coffee I’ve had since Italy!

I’ve always been a great fan of the colour green. Bülows Kaffebar therefore made me very happy. Also, because the place would even be lovely in black and white, blue or any other colour for that matter. Green makes the coffee taste even better though. And being asked whether I want sugar in my coffee kind of made it feel like home. Hyggelig!

Inspired by the great selection of scones and rolls at Sigfreds Kaffebar, I decided to experiment a little myself. It turns out, beetroot does not taste like very much in bread, but the purple texture at least looks very pretty. And since root vegetables have something inherently northern for me (I was greeted to Aarhus with a tzaziki made with beetroot instead of cucumber, for one) , I even feel a little bit Danish!
